Our Impact
Innovating Storage for a Clean Energy Future
Our research enables 100% renewable energy through advanced storage solutions. We focus on grid integration and sizing of storage systems, techno-economic modelling, and emerging technologies. Our work includes clean transportation, electric vehicle battery reuse, and life cycle assessments. We also model batteries for off-grid systems, develop pricing for pumped hydro storage, and study strategic storage placement. Additionally, we explore behind-the-meter storage and co-located renewable systems to enhance energy reliability.
Contribution to the Grand Challenges
The Energy Storage group plays a vital role in India’s green energy transition. We focus on making energy storage central to a reliable and efficient energy system. Our work includes collaborating with policymakers, industry, and researchers to support policies that promote storage integration in grids and transport. Energy storage helps manage renewable energy’s intermittency and strengthens grid stability. We model and analyse storage needs, techno-economic feasibility, and support resource planning in five states. Current projects include assessing DISCOM storage needs and co-locating storage with renewables. Future work will explore emerging technologies, second-life batteries, and urban microgrids.
