The group develops scientific frameworks to advance sustainability through circular economy, rural regeneration, and resource efficiency. It fosters cross-sector knowledge exchange, enabling evidence-based policies aligned with the SDGs to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship.
Contribution to the Grand Challenges
Under the grand challenge of building a Sustainable and Secure Future, the Sustainability group works to integrate environmental, social, and economic priorities into policy and practice. By applying scientific methods and systems thinking, the team develops frameworks that support circular economy transitions, rural regeneration, and sustainable consumption and production. Their work is grounded in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and aims to ensure that today’s development does not compromise future generations. Through knowledge-sharing platforms, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building, the group fosters collaboration across sectors to implement scalable, evidence-based solutions that protect natural resources while supporting inclusive and resilient growth.
