Dr Manish Kumar

Research Scientist

Dr Manish Kumar is a Research Scientist and leads the Adaptation & Risk Analysis group at CSTEP.

He holds a doctorate in ‘Ecohydrology and Climate Change’ from the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) and the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). He completed his Master’s in Ecology and Environmental Sciences from Pondicherry University, Puducherry, and his Bachelor’s in Zoology from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram.

Prior to joining CSTEP, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate at the University of Birmingham, the United Kingdom, for developing a multiparameter fluorescence-, absorbance-, and turbidity-based water quality sensor under a project by Proteus Instruments. He has also worked with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Delhi, on promoting solar irrigation in South Asia, and is a contributing author to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6).

His areas of interest include climate-forest-water interlinkages, disaster risk reduction, environmental sensors, environmental quality monitoring, remote sensing and data analytics, eco-hydro-climate modelling, and evidence-based climate policymaking.
