Integrated Sustainable Energy Solutions for Andhra Pradesh : Assessing energy storage at the DISCOM level

Key Highlights

This project focuses on identifying the optimal energy storage requirements at the distribution level in Andhra Pradesh (AP) for 2040, supporting the state’s transition toward a reliable, low-carbon power system. Through least-cost resource planning at the DISCOM level, the study evaluates how renewable energy, and storage can be optimally deployed to meet future electricity demand while maintaining grid stability and affordability.

The analysis determines the optimal capacity of renewable energy and storage, as well as the optimal dispatch strategy for supply to ensure round-the-clock reliability. By integrating techno-economic modelling with distribution-level considerations, the project provides actionable insights on how DISCOMs can leverage battery energy storage and other flexible resources to manage variability, reduce costs, and enhance the efficiency of Andhra Pradesh’s evolving power system.
