The Senior Analyst/Associate would work on WRF-CAMx and/or WRF-Chem modelling system to perform model inter-comparison and validation using satellite/ground-based measurements, would make changes in model setup to improve model performance, and help in preparing model inputs for use in reduced complexity model(s).

 

For the role, we are seeking candidates with expertise in weather/chemistry transport modeling, satellite data analysis and visualisation. The applicant must have experience in working with Weather Research and Forecasting model with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) and/or Comprehensive Air Quality Model with Extensions (CAMx) on High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms. The candidate should have work experience in satellite datasets (e.g., MODIS, TROPOMI, etc.) and should be proficient in high-level programming languages (python/R) for data processing.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regional-scale air quality modelling on HPC platforms.
  • Process and analyse model outputs and satellite retrieved datasets.
  • Help adapt reduced complexity model(s) over India.
  • Participate in relevant conferences and workshops, as required.
  • Assist the team on multi-disciplinary projects, report writing, presentations, and project development.            

 

 

Qualifications

  • MTech/PhD in a discipline related to air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, meteorology, or equivalent.
  • Should have studied chemistry/atmospheric chemistry and meteorology in Master’s degree/PhD coursework.

 

 

Experience

  • A minimum  of 2 years of research experience in WRF-Chem, CAMx, and/or any chemical transport model during MTech/PhD.
  • Having peer-reviewed journal articles published in international journals would be an advantage.

 

 

Skills Required

  • Skilled in programming languages and data analysis tools like FORTRAN and Python/R.
  • Experience in running WRF/WRF-Chem/CAMx model on HPC platforms.
  • Ability to work within a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Ability to handle large volume of datasets (NetCDF, HDF, GRIB, ASCII, geo-referenced data).
  • Strong research and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Experience in working with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
